About

about.gifWelcome to EvaluatingStocks.com, where I’ll do my best to cut to the chase and give you my honest opinion about the financial markets, stocks, and investing. I find it’s pretty hard to get impartial investment information on the web sometimes - there are a lot of sites out there pitching specific stocks or trying to take advantage of the average investor. The internet seems to be the new medium for the “cold call” (insert picture of Charlie Sheen from Wall Street here - ha!).

However, it’s also the new tool for the intelligent investor - where smart, rational individuals can pool and share information so other like minded investors can benefit. I think it was Wired magazine that came up with the term “crowdsourcing” - that is, instead of having one person or a small group of people doing all of the research, information is culled from a larger population of individuals to the benefit of the entire group. But, as you know, this is just a more recent application of an older, tried and true method: the electronic billboard (which has been around since War Games). Commodore 64 anyone? Ok, so maybe I was the only one who owned one.

The new and improved paradigm, however, seems to be working fairly well, as evidenced by such sites as valueinvestorsclub.com (which Forbes added to its “best of the web”) and the Motley Fool. This new model is more selective though, requiring users to “audition” to become part of the group, or by implementing rating systems to evaluate the quality of information which is submitted by a given user. I hope to achieve something similar with this site - that is, help foster and grow a smart investment community which benefits investors of all skill levels. Feel free to comment on any posts, as we want you to share your thoughts, opinions, and advice with our community.
